How to Fix:: Call of Duty World at War – “Fasfile for zone… (code 107)” error

Happy new year to All!!!

OK, I got the “Call of Duty: World at War” game as a gift for the new year and I decided that I would give it a try. I remember when I used to play first person shooter and the first game I ever played (in this genre) was DOOM 95. wooowww I still remember the cheat code for that game… looolll

Anyways, I installed the call of duty and was expecting a very smooth install which was the case. But after that when I started the game I saw the splash screen and about 3-4 seconds of the movie when an error popped up saying: “Fastfile for zone ‘common’ appears corrupt or unreadable (code 107.)” !!! I had never had a problem with any game this way, at least they would start and then some sort of error would appear in the middle of the game not at the beginning. Anyways, I googled it and found out that some people are saying their DVD needed to be replaced and blah blah blah.

To make the story short, I got tired and decided I’ve try to find what’s the problem so I oppened up the installation folder and immidiatly saw a “zone” folder. AHHHAAAA !!! Yeah, there it was, inside the “zone” folder and under the “english” folder lies all the zone files and “common.ff” was one of the files there. So I guessed it could have been curropted when during the installation and a good copy should be in the DVD-ROM somewhere.

HERE IS THE FIX:

Open up your DVD folder (in My Computer right click your DVD and click on “Open”) then navigate to “Setup>Data>zone>english”. So the address in the address bar should be “J:\Setup\Data\zone\english” if your DVD-ROM letter is “J”. You need to copy the needed file from here and paste it in your installation’s “zone” folder as I mentioned previously.

NOTE: this error happened for me several times for different files during the game so I suggest you copy the entire folder and replace your instllation folder with it so you would not get kicked out of the game as much as I did because of this stupid error.

NOTE2: If for any reason your problem wasn’t fixed you need to call Activision and request a replacement, but meanwhile you can download the file you need from the list I’ll provide at the botton of this post.

My 2 Cents:

I guess this is Windows issue rather that the installation DVD or installation process issue. But to be honest I am really disappointed with the fact that they haven’t addressed this issue and people are still looking for a fix for this problem.

@ Ray, Try copying the pel2.ff file from your friend’s disk as well. If it didn’t change anything, download the pel2_load.ff from here (I’m going to upload it right now) and try it with that, hopefully it works.

@ Dreaddie, I know I had the same problem in different sections of the game and the worst thing is that it doesn’t save the last step so you gotta do it all over again . Anyways, I’ll upload the ui.ff here… check back in few hours.

Hey Guys, I have a free account on divshare and your downloads have passed 100GB limit it has for the month of February in JUST 1 DAY!!!! That’s why all the download links would give the error message.

I don’t want to upload them on localhostr cuz it has a 50MB file limit. Rapidshare is also not good for most of the people.

If anyone know of any free file hosting services please let me know. I’ll upload these files there….

Hi there. I’m getting this error every time I try to load multi-player Upheaval. I’ve tried very hard to fix this on my own. Directly copying mp_suburban.ff from the DVD will let me open games with the map, but when I try to join servers with it I get disconnected with a message saying that my map is not the same as the server’s.

Anyways, I’d greatly appreciate the 1.2 version of Upheaval(mp_suburban.ff).

Hello everyone!
I ‘m from Greece and my name is Dimitris.
I installed the game on my laptop(HP Pavillion) and when i run the game, i got a console error that i couldn’t see because it was hiding behind the black screen.In this way i couldn’t read the message and i didn’t now what was the problem.So i was trying to guess what would be the problem.I was trying to fix this problem for about 5 or 6 months(maybe more, don’t remember exactly).First i updated the directX without solution.Then i tried to update my graphic’s card drivers but HP had a different opinion on that. The driver-updating took me a MONTH!!!Sometimes when i was updating my drivers and after the first restart the only working resolution was 640×480 and 4bit color depth,NOT in the game but in the windows. About an hour ago i found a way to read the console error message!Immediately i googled it and i found your site. I read your post and then i downloaded the ui.ff (that was my error) and then i copy-pasted it in the COD5 folder.
Now everything is working fine, i think, until the next error message come up.

“Fastfile for zone ‘common’ appears corrupt or unreadable (code 107.)”

The reason why your computer sees that your files CODWAW files s are corrupt, is because your computers are having internal memory and / or hard drive read or write errors causing the problem .

EITHER BAD MEMORY OR BAD HARD DRIVES OR BOTH, OR BOTH MISCONSTRUED.

I know this for fact, because once I replaced all my bad system memory, and reinstalled the game, I haven’t had a single f’n problem loading any of the CODWAW maps now. The bad memory affected this game the most.

I wonder if the dumb shite that started this Fix Topics PC is still running.

Problem with gamefonts_pc.iwi missing! downloaded from somewhere and copying it in to the COD folder didnt work! making folders C:\Documents and Settings\Erfan\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CoDWaW\Players\Profiles and put active.txt inside didnt work too.

Some of the files are unavailable because they have reached a 1G download limit that Divshare puts on free accounts. So you have to wait until April 25th or create an account with them which will allow you to download the files.

If you are receiving the error Code_Post_GFX_MP.FF is different from server then the solution is to reinstall all of the upgrade patches even if the program tells you that you have the correct version!!! It worked for me just fine!
